About
Ryan Johns is an independent Christian artist born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1982. He grew up singing in church, school and around the house. At 18 he decided to start a band with some friends in Atlanta, Georgia called “Down to Earth.” Starting from scratch, the guys all learned how to play instruments and Ryan wrote a song for their first event. The band was able to play around mostly the south US at different church events and became the in-house worship band for their local church youth group “The Crowd.”
In the past, Ryan has been heavily involved with his church choir which won the Verizon Wireless “How Sweet The Sound” gospel choir competition in 2009, earning the title “Best Church Choir in America.” With this title, Ryan has performed on Atlanta’s Fox 5 news, Good Morning America, Fox & Friends, and the Gospel Music Channel as the choir backed up Donald Lawrence for the finale of the Stellar Awards.
Ryan finished his first solo album with Producer/friend John Denosky which began in January of 2009. Ryan and several friends have collaborated and written 80% of the songs on this debut album. The album “Breathe Again” is available on iTunes.
In December of 2011, Ryan and his grandfather, George Johns, released “White Christmas” as a duet. This timeless classic was a collaboration between Ryan Johns and long-time friend, Daniel Kinner from Nashville, Tennessee. The song is available on iTunes.
After a year off recording music, and getting engaged to his fiancee, Kinsie Gurley, Ryan took a few days off in April of 2013 to write and relax and in the middle of the trip he wrote his new single “Forever I Will Praise You.” This is Ryan’s first worship single. He teamed up Daniel Kinner produce the single. In 2016, the Florida Worship Choir (a 400-voice choir) recorded the song with a full orchestra and the song is available exclusively through prismmusic.com.
Most recently, Ryan has been focusing on his work at Atlanta West Pentecostal Church and continues to write songs from time-to-time. The United Pentecostal Church International released a live album in 2016 on which his missions-themed song “I Will Go” was recorded. A song Ryan co-wrote with a group of friends titled “Sing it Out” was recorded by Jessica DiGiovanni on the album “Defend Us.”
